Default Login Server

This has been a long time coming. The project was started 3 years ago in March of 2006 by Red October and myself. Sadly, the project lay quiet for a long time. In April of 2009 UBISoft(tm) announced the final and official closing of the Shadowbane Servers. Since that point the project has exploded and tons of work has been completed. Over 125,000 lines of code have been written and an unknown amount of man hours have been exerted. We still have a while before we are completed with this project, but trust me when I say we are going to keep going until the project is finished.

Shadowbane will live!

We have the current revision of the Login Server available. With this you will be able to fire up Shadowbane and Create/Delete your own Characters. You will not be able to play these Characters at this point in time, but that is coming...

Things to note:
1) This is a test Server, and may be down for patching and rebooting at anytime.
2) Character (and even account) wipes can also happen at anytime. If you experience an account wipe, simply follow the directions below and re-create your account.
3) Report any bugs or errors in the Bug Reporting Forum.
4) If you abuse the system, or otherwise try to purposefully do it harm your privileges will be removed (Please refer back to item 3 if you find a bug).
5) Custom usernames are not going to be allowed (ie: your forum login is going to be your game login).
5a)Feature coming: you will be able to do custom passwords.

Thank you all for your patience and thank you to the dev team for all their hard work!

Interesting Tidbit:
"Assuming an average open source project is 35,000 lines of code and the average cost of a software developer is $30/hour (~$60,000/year), a simple COCOMO II calculator tells us that the average open source project costs $630,000 to develop."

As today comes to a close, I would just like to take a few moments to thank all of you who decided to log in today and help us test our Login Server. While there were a few minor character validation issues related to incorrect data, the server itself worked like a charm. Over 350 people made accounts and more than 1250 characters were created. The stress we put on the server today is significantly higher than anything we are likely to see in day-to-day operation. This served as an important proof-of-concept for many of our key architectural components.

We simply could not have gotten the testing we got today without your help. Based on the results we received, we have already begun implementing many changes and bug fixes to make the server even better.

So, Thank you. We would be nothing without all of you.
