Alright, a quick update. This last month (and then some) has been a turbulent one as I have spent a good amount of time keeping the ranks of the SBEmu team pruned and cleaned up. Seems there has been a rather large rash of people joining up but then not doing anything... so they get the bump and I put in someone else. So forth and such on. Anyways, December opened up with the highest amount of active Devs and Designers to date. (Cheers!)
First order of business is to announce the official completion of Milestone 1. The crypto package that the team has put together seems to be working at 100%. It has been in use for well over 3 months now and hasn't offered up any problems. So with that, we are applying the stamp of "Completed and Tested" to Milestone 1. Second order of business is to announce the proximity of Milestone 2 on the LoginServer(LS). The LS has been functionality completed to a point where we are in full on Dev testing on a live LS as I type this. (I believe Konrad mentioned this in another thread )Now, I can already tell what some of you are thinking: "THEY'RE ONLY AT ALPHA ON ONLY THE LOGINSERVER?!?!?!" Two things about this. 1) The amount of Dev activity during the summer/fall was significantly lower than I would have liked. (See the first Paragraph) That sucked pretty bad and I fear may end up impacting the estimated Live date. I am not pushing the schedule to the right yet, as I remain hopeful for reasons to follow. 2)Building a piece of software is akin to building a house. First and foremost, one has to build a solid foundation. If there aren't any people who have built a foundation of this sort before, the foundation stage could take a while. Once it's built though, the remaining portions of the house go up quickly. That is what we have been doing. Building the Foundation for the Server. We want it Fast and Stable, so it took some time to finally 'get it right'. Third order of business: Publicly available LoginServer just for the sake of getting the community a small 'fix' for the addiction . I anticipate that this won't be a problem, so long as the community understands that there is no promise the LoginServer will remain online indefinitely and that the characters created with it will remain intact.Discussion Thread: http://community.shadowbaneemulator....hread.php?t=70 |
